Prenup Myth #1: Asking for a prenup opens the door for divorce.

I have never understood why people say that getting a prenup just opens the door for a divorce. Does getting car insurance open the door for an accident? Does having health insurance open the door for appendicitis? The door is already open by simply living life. Situations happen that no one ever expects to happen so why not prepare for those? The sad reality is that half (give or take some) of marriages will end. The divorce door is already open, preparing for the worst case scenario does not mean it will happen it just means that you are prepared if it does. Everyone goes into their marriage thinking that they are the going to live “happily ever after” forever, but for half of those people forever is only 10, 15, or 20 years. Divorce used to be something that was frowned upon and rarely done; now it is common, no longer stigmatized, and even celebrated with divorce parties and divorce selfies. Our society has flung the divorce door wide open, having a prenup doesn’t mean you have to walk through it.
