Love by the Numbers: What is the divorce rate?

It’s Valentine’s Day! Apparently today is all about love and romance. Which is perfectly fine. I celebrate love, I have a wonderful love who will be treating to me Chick fil A (it’s what I really wanted). But I’m also a realist and I like to bring people back down to earth when they get too far in the clouds.

Now I get this question a lot and I figured today is the perfect day to answer it. What is really the divorce rate? Glad you asked. Everyone hears and spouts off 50%, I’ve done it, well that is not entirely true. The correct answer…well that depends. There are a lot of statistics out there. Here are just a few:

The divorce rate is around 50% for those that do not have a college degree. While those who have a college degree are estimated at around 37%.

41% of first marriages end in divorce while 60% of second marriages end in divorce and 73% of third marriages end in divorce.

Living together before to getting married can increase the chance of getting divorced by as much as 40%.

However you look at it, your chances are not very good. So again I say, GET A PRENUP. Just in case.
