It’s been a while since I’ve busted a prenup myth. This is one I keep hearing over and over again. “I trust him/her. I don’t need a prenup.” I’m sure you also trusted that your neighbor wouldn’t shoot fireworks off in their yard and end up burning down your house too, but hey life happens. Good thing you had insurance.
My point is that a prenup is not about trust but protection. You are protecting yourself just in case. Just in case your marriage doesn’t last. Just in case they do decide they want your money.
They say there is a thin line between love and hate for a reason. People change I have said it before. Why not plan for disaster while you both love and value each other. Not after you’ve been cheated on or have built up years of resentment. Because if that happens, there is a very high probability they will want revenge. They will want your money.
